Thomas L. Correa Lisboa

Trace Thomas Lisboa's path from weekly trips to Alliance headquarters to a black belt from Fabio Gurgel and 2010 purple-belt World gold.

Biography

Thomas Lincoln Correa Lisboa, known as Jabuta, is an Alliance Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt under Fabio Gurgel. BJJ Fanatics Brasil reports that he was born in Taubate, São Paulo state, on March 6, 1988. Lisboa started through an Alliance affiliate in Taubate and made regular trips to Alliance headquarters in São Paulo to train under Gurgel. BJJ Fanatics Brasil attributes the nickname Jabuta to Bruno Malfacine, who gave it to Lisboa while they trained there. Official IBJJF results list him first in the adult male purple-belt light-featherweight division at the 2010 World Championship. BJJ Heroes dates Lisboa's promotion to black belt by Gurgel to December 15, 2012. The same biography says Gurgel then connected him with Marcelo Garcia's academy in New York, where Lisboa spent six months learning and coaching. He later returned to coach at Alliance headquarters and in Moema for two years.
