Sofia Rosa Amarante

Black belt under Roberto "Cyborg" Abreu, co-owns and teaches at Jiu Jitsu 4 Life in Margate, Florida, and coaches its women's fitness programme.

Biography

Sofia Amarante co-owns and teaches at Jiu Jitsu 4 Life, an academy in Margate, Florida, which also serves Coral Springs and Parkland. She is a black belt under Roberto "Cyborg" Abreu, and the academy's own page puts her at the fourth degree. Beside the jiu-jitsu she coaches a women's fitness programme at the gym, and the same page places her at the centre of its private coaching. She was already being described as a black belt under Abreu, and as a world champion, in March 2012, when a woman who had been on the mat the day before wrote up a women's open mat that Amarante led at South Florida Fight Club. By that account the session ran as an ordinary class rather than a social roll, with running, drilling and technique, and the writer, who calls her Sofia "Bubu" Amarante, put the turnout at about 34. Her academy's own page credits her with nine World Championship titles, without naming or dating any of them. FloGrappling's round-up of the 2024 IBJJF World Masters Championship, held in Las Vegas on 29-31 August, lists "Sofia Rosa Amarante (JJ4L)" as the first of four names under Female / Master 3 / Black Belt at light-feather. That article does not mark the placings, so the order in which the names appear is not itself a result.
