Remco Pardoel (born 1969, Oss) began martial arts in early childhood with judo, taekwondo and traditional jiu-jitsu, winning silver at the 1988 Dutch junior national judo championships before turning to the emerging world of vale tudo. He fought at UFC 2 in 1994, where he defeated Orlando Wiet before losing to Royce Gracie, and went on to face Marco Ruas, Minoru Suzuki and others across an international MMA career. His lasting significance is as a connector: in 1993 he brought a Brazilian team to his hometown of Oss for what is remembered as one of the first BJJ seminars on the European continent, seeding the Gracie Barra / Draculino presence in the Netherlands from which coaches such as Jordy Peute later emerged. He received his BJJ black belt from Vinicius 'Draculino' Magalhaes in 2007. Note: some later self-promotional 'first European black belt / record-fast promotion' claims attributed to him are disputed and are not treated as fact here.
