Ítalo Silva Lins de Albuquerque

Ítalo Lins combines the foot-lock teaching of The Lins Lock with the tactics and training discipline behind his 2020 World Master title.

Biography

Ítalo Lins teaches a foot-lock system that connects submission attacks with passing the guard. A GF Team black belt under Julio Cesar Pereira, he won the Master 1 black-belt featherweight division at the 2020 World Master championship. His account of that tournament describes both the decisions behind the victory and the work needed to keep competing while becoming a parent. Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1988, Ítalo Silva Lins de Albuquerque began with capoeira. According to BJJ Heroes, friends introduced him to jiu-jitsu at twelve. Carlos Santana taught him through the coloured belts, from white to brown, before Lins joined GF Team's main training camp. There, Julio Cesar Pereira promoted him to black belt in 2010. His early black-belt results included a lightweight title at the 2011 Las Vegas Open, where he defeated Steven Rosenberg. At the February 2014 World Pro qualifier in Gramado, he won the under-70 kg final against Mario Reis. The score was tied at 2–2, with a penalty deciding the result. That win came at the qualifying event for Abu Dhabi. Later that year, his Worlds results included a submission win over David Juliano Lemes. Looking back on the World Master campaign in a February 2021 Graciemag interview, Lins described concentration and maintaining energy as his greatest challenges. A quarter-final against Osvaldo Queixinho strengthened his confidence. He enjoyed opponents who attacked and pursued submissions: those exchanges gave him opportunities to use his speed and movement. In the final, he beat Kevin Wheeler 5–0. Lins explained that he expected Wheeler's lapel guard, in which the gi fabric is used to control an opponent. He scored first, controlled the legs and hips, and passed the guard. A late triangle attempt ended with the clock. His account of training was equally practical. He and fellow black belt Thamires Aquino had maintained a demanding routine as new parents, using mats at home when he could not get to the academy. The lesson he drew combined preparation and concentration with enjoying the contest. His teaching offers specific connections between positions. BJJ Fanatics publishes The Lins Lock, covering the foot attack from both guard and passing positions. Its public curriculum includes grips and responses to ankle-lock attacks, then transitions from the lock into a leg drag and side control. The syllabus connects attempts to finish a submission with ways of getting past an opponent's legs. His beginners series covers a broader range: attacks, position changes and escapes from side control, mount, the back and turtle, alongside standing offence and defence. In Arkansas, Overcome Jiu Jitsu in Bentonville lists Lins as an instructor. Overcome Jiu Jitsu Pinnacle in Rogers names him and Aquino as its head professors, describing their work with adult beginners and children.
