Ademir Barreto Araújo

GF Team black belt Ademir Barreto Araújo divided his time between Macapá and Rio before taking silver at the 2024 IBJJF World Championship.

Biography

Ademir Barreto Araújo is a GF Team black belt from Macapá whose competition record includes silver at the 2024 IBJJF World Championship. Born in Macapá, Amapá, Brazil, on October 30, 2000, he began judo at five. BJJ Heroes traces Araújo's introduction to jiu-jitsu to about age eleven or twelve, when he mistook a local class for judo. John Azevedo became his first jiu-jitsu instructor at a GF Team affiliate in Macapá. As competition became his focus, Araújo joined Orlando Júnior's group. As a purple belt, he was invited by Júlio César Pereira to train at GF Team headquarters in Rio, after which he divided his time between Rio and Macapá. Araújo won the AJP World Pro at brown belt in 2021. Under the event's advancement rule, that result moved him into black-belt opposition even though his formal promotion had not yet taken place. Orlando Júnior promoted him to black belt on July 27, 2022. IBJJF's Dublin Fall Open report shows Araújo winning the 2022 black-belt lightweight title. He submitted all three opponents, and none recorded a score against him. The federation's 2024 World Championship results place him second among the adult male black-belt featherweights. Its athlete record also lists European bronze that year and several gold medals at open tournaments from 2024 through 2026.
