Carlos Lima

Coral belt Carlos Lima taught at Curitiba's Academia Guardian, awarded Sebastian Lalli his black belt in 2002, and founded Irmandade in Ponta Grossa.

Biography

Carlos Lima is a seventh-degree coral belt whose documented work spans Academia Guardian in Curitiba and Irmandade Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Ponta Grossa. A D'Ponta profile identifies him as Irmandade's founder, a Carlson Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Team representative, and a teacher with more than fifty years in jiu-jitsu. BJJ Heroes places Lima at Guardian in the mid-1990s, within an account of a Curitiba scene that had only two jiu-jitsu academies. In its profile of Sebastian Lalli, Lima replaced an earlier coach at Guardian and awarded Lalli every belt through the black belt he received in 2002. The site's lineage listings place Ricardo De La Riva immediately before Lima and Lima immediately before Lalli; a second profile on the same site extends that published line through Lalli to Mayara Custódio. Lima's work in Ponta Grossa is visible at Irmandade. D'Ponta says he founded Irmandade and teaches in Ponta Grossa, while AJP Tour's official club record lists Irmandade Jiu Jitsu Carlos Lima in the city and names Lima as a manager and responsible party. D'Ponta also gives a concrete example of Lima's teaching. He says he pairs female students with lighter, technically skilled training partners so they can develop without being injured.
