Adilson Lima

Adilson "Bitta" Lima built Pitbull in Teresopolis, coached competitors, and now teaches in Abu Dhabi as a seventh-degree coral belt.

Biography

Adilson Jorge de Lima, better known as Bitta, built his career across the mats as a competitor, coach, and academy founder. Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1964, he began jiu-jitsu at 18 under Geny Rebello, who guided him from white through brown belt. After further training at several academies in Rio, Carlos Rollyson and Carlos Gracie Jr. awarded him his black belt in 1988. Today, Bitta BJJ's instructor roster lists him as a seventh-degree coral belt. In 1991, Lima opened Clube de Jiu Jitsu Pitbull in Teresopolis. His work there can be traced through competitors including Delson Heleno and Vitor Henrique Oliveira. Heleno's biography identifies Lima as his jiu-jitsu teacher, while Oliveira's names Lima as his first coach and the instructor who promoted him through every belt, including black belt at age 22. Lima also competed in both jiu-jitsu and professional MMA. In gi competition, BJJ Metrics records him as the 2008 Master 3 black-belt super-heavy champion and open-class bronze medalist, representing Gracie Barra Pitbull. BJJ Heroes' achievement list also includes Brazilian national titles and 2015 European Open wins in both his weight class and the open class. BJJ Heroes describes a vale-tudo career of five wins and two losses. In 2012, Lima and Ursula Lima accepted an invitation to move to the United Arab Emirates and help develop jiu-jitsu in the region. He now teaches at Bitta BJJ in Abu Dhabi, where the academy describes him as a long-time competitor known for pressure passing. Across the move from Teresopolis to Abu Dhabi, the clearest line in his career is the one carried by his students.
