Rigan Machado

Rigan Machado’s path from early family training to ADCC results continues at his Beverly Hills academy.

Biography

Rigan Machado was born in 1966 and, according to The Academy Beverly Hills, began learning jiu-jitsu with his Gracie cousins at age five. The academy says that he grew more serious about training and competition at fourteen. The same academy describes Machado as Carlos Gracie Jr.'s first black belt and as an original instructor who taught in Rorion Gracie's garage during the early development of Brazilian jiu-jitsu in the United States. Official ADCC results place Machado fourth in the under-99-kilogram division in 1999, followed by bronze in the over-99-kilogram division in 2000. Machado teaches from Beverly Hills. The Rigan Machado Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Association lists him as owner and instructor of The Academy there, and says its affiliate academies use certified Machado instructors and follow his standards for belt testing.
