Pedro Duarte

Pedro Duarte carried Murilo Bustamante's lineage from Rio to teaching networks in northern Europe and later jiu-jitsu work in Abu Dhabi.

Biography

Pedro Nogueira Duarte's career connects a training room in Rio de Janeiro with teaching networks in northern Europe and jiu-jitsu work in Abu Dhabi. BJJ Heroes reports that friends invited him to a class with Murilo Bustamante in 1989; in 1997, Duarte won a brown-belt world title and then received his black belt from Bustamante. After becoming a black belt, Duarte partnered with Bustamante at an academy in Leblon. A planned Bustamante seminar with Swedish visitors instead led Duarte to teach in Scandinavia, and from 2000 he made repeated visits connected with Hilti's growth in Sweden, Finland, and Germany. The source traces the route; Finland's federation register shows part of what followed on the mat. It lists Pedro Duarte across promotions at multiple Finnish academies and identifies Venla Luukkonen as receiving her black belt from him on February 22, 2014. The same profile connects Duarte's later UAE work to Palm Sports beginning in 2013. The UAE federation's public club page also names him as the person in charge of the Military Program - PS entry in Abu Dhabi. That public record stays specific about the role: it does not establish a broader corporate title. Duarte also competed at the masters level. In November 2021, the UAE federation named Duarte, representing Brazil, the men's master-4 black-belt champion at 94 kilograms at the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship.
