Leandro Lora

A Carlos Henrique black belt from Rio, Leandro Lora helped establish the nonprofit Brazil-021 project supporting children and families.

Biography

Leandro Lora is a jiu-jitsu black belt under Carlos Henrique whose history includes training at Kioto, competing for Brazil 021 and helping establish a nonprofit project associated with the team. The account of his early training comes from BJJ Heroes. Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1979, he began jiu-jitsu as a young child at Francisco Mansur's Kioto academy. His teachers included Mansur, Álvaro and Carlos Henrique. Henrique became his principal teacher and awarded all his belts through black belt in July 2010. The same profile identifies the omoplata, a shoulder lock applied with the legs, as his preferred technique. At brown belt, Lora represented Brazil 021 at the 2010 International Masters and Seniors Championship, where the official results place him third in male Master 1 middleweight. Master 1 is an age-group division. In a December 2014 Graciemag interview, André Terêncio named Lora among the co-founders of the nonprofit Brazil-021 project, alongside Hannette Staack and other collaborators. Terêncio described its origins in jiu-jitsu activity in Borel and its aim of supporting children and their families through the sport. The project was already providing transport to nearby tournaments. For 2015, he planned English teaching and help with competition fees and travel.
