Eduardo 'Teta' Rios arrived in Oslo from Rio de Janeiro in 2006-2007 and inherited a young Norwegian scene that had grit but no real pipeline. Within a decade he had turned Frontline Academy into the engine of Norwegian and Scandinavian BJJ — building one of Europe's strongest competition programmes around a Carlson Gracie → Brazilian Top Team lineage that he carried personally.
A 5x IBJJF European No-Gi black-belt champion in his own right, Rios is best known for the athletes he has produced. Tarik Hopstock, Anja Bergo, Nic Ruben Nikolaisen, Sebastian Brosche and Alexander Rio Farstadvoll all wear the Frontline patch — and most carry his black belt.
His arrival is frequently described as the turning point for Scandinavian jiu-jitsu. The numbers back it up: before Teta, Norway sent travellers to the IBJJF Europeans; after Teta, it sent contenders.
