From Manaus to ADCC titles, Diogo “Baby Shark” Reis combines elite competition with building Ágora Jiu-Jitsu in Jundiaí.

Biography

Diogo “Baby Shark” Reis is a Brazilian grappler who has won titles at ADCC and in ONE Championship while continuing to compete in the gi, jiu-jitsu's traditional uniform. He is also the founder and head coach of Ágora Jiu-Jitsu in Jundiaí, São Paulo. Born in Manaus on March 20, 2002, Reis began jiu-jitsu at ten after being introduced to it by his older brother. Alexandre Oliveira taught him through yellow belt; he then joined Melqui Galvão's team. In a 2025 interview with ONE, Reis recalled how his brother Adriano looked after the siblings while their parents worked long hours. He followed Adriano into football before trying jiu-jitsu. The martial art brought different expectations: punctuality, respect and discipline, which Reis credited with changing his behavior as a child. Early youth titles at the Brazilian Nationals were followed by competition in North America from 2017. Travel required money as well as results. Reis remembered selling raffle tickets and asking friends for help with flights, entry fees and a US visa. Training in the United States gave him a closer view of a possible profession. Watching Rubens “Cobrinha” Charles at work, he said, made a livelihood in jiu-jitsu seem attainable. ## From youth titles to black belt In 2019, Reis won the European, Pan, Brazilian and World championships in the male juvenile 2 blue-belt featherweight division, representing Alliance. His progress from those youth competitions to black belt was swift: he received the rank in December 2020, seven months after brown belt. He won the Abu Dhabi World Pro in 2021. His first year in IBJJF black-belt competition came in 2022. He won the Brazilian Nationals and finished third at the World Championships. In no-gi competition, where athletes grapple without the uniform, he won the ADCC under-66-kilogram title by defeating Gabriel Sousa in the final. Reis continued competing in both formats. At the 2023 Curitiba Summer Open, he won featherweight in gi and no-gi. The gi final showed a sequence of positional gains: he moved from underneath his opponent to the top, passed the defending legs and caught an armbar as his opponent tried to escape his side-control pin. In the no-gi final, he again advanced through sweeps and passes before reaching the back and finishing with a rear-naked choke. Later that year, he won the Pan Championship at black-belt light-featherweight. At ADCC in Las Vegas in 2024, Reis retained the under-66-kilogram title. His path included a decision over Fabricio Andrey and a points victory against Josh Cisneros before he submitted Diego “Pato” with an arm-triangle choke in the final. His gi results continued alongside that title defense: in 2025 he won the adult black-belt light-featherweight European Championship and took silver at the Pan and World championships. ## A training partner's view Andrey knew Reis long before they met at ADCC. Speaking to ONE in June 2026, he recalled their development through the colored belts in Manaus and taking Reis home after training. Two years older, Andrey described his friend as a younger brother. He also explained what Reis brought to their training. Where Andrey saw himself as an instinctive attacker, he described Reis as a planner who studied weaknesses. Working with Reis, he said, taught him to think more carefully about competition rules and strategy. ## Submission grappling in ONE Reis signed with ONE Championship in 2024 and made his promotional debut in March 2025 at ONE Fight Night 29. He submitted Shoya Ishiguro at 6:05 with a head-scissor choke combined with a kimura attack on the arm. In December, at ONE Fight Night 38, he faced Daiki Yonekura for the vacant flyweight submission-grappling world title. Over ten minutes, Reis applied pressure from the top and threatened chokes while defending Yonekura's leg locks. A unanimous decision gave him the championship. These were grappling contests, not MMA bouts. ONE subsequently named him its 2025 Submission Grappler of the Year. In May 2026 he moved up to bantamweight for a match with Yuki Takahashi at ONE Fight Night 43. Reis repeatedly regained control of Takahashi's back and attacked submissions on his way to another unanimous decision. ## Ágora in Jundiaí By June 2026, Reis had formed Ágora Jiu-Jitsu. The academy describes its aim as offering high-level training in Brazil while making room for beginners. Its introductory teaching starts with safe falling, positioning and defense before moving to more advanced work. Reis had told ONE in 2025 that he wanted to encourage children to pursue jiu-jitsu, placing greater lasting value on helping another generation than on medals. Ágora's published program includes children's groups organized by age and level, with a competition group as well. Adults can take fundamentals and competition classes in both gi and no-gi.
