Bruno Carvalho

Brazilian jiu-jitsu fourth-degree black belt Bruno Carvalho went from Salvador and European MMA to teaching at Team Carvalho Drammen.

Biography

Bruno Carvalho’s route into Brazilian jiu-jitsu begins in Salvador, Bahia. Carvalho writes that he was born and raised there, began Judo as a child, and later took up Brazilian jiu-jitsu and Vale Tudo. In that account, the family connection is direct: in 2004, his uncles awarded him his Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt. His fighting years took him to Europe in 2006, where he says he focused on MMA. A 2009 Sherdog event report identified Carvalho as a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt from Brazil via Gothenburg, Sweden, challenging for a WFC middleweight title. When Cage Warriors announced a five-fight deal in 2012, it likewise described him as Brazilian and training from Sweden. In 2012, Fighter Magazine reported that Carvalho was opening Team Carvalho Stockholm, then the team’s fourth school in Sweden after Båstad, Halmstad and Gothenburg. Carvalho writes that he retired from MMA in 2016 to focus on teaching Brazilian jiu-jitsu. His affiliation page lists Team Carvalho Drammen in Norway, and the academy identifies him as a fourth-degree Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt. At the Drammen academy, the instructor page says Vilde Amaya Opsahl has trained and taught under Carvalho for more than nine years.
