Biography
Alexander Rio Farstadvoll is a Norwegian Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt and one of the most reliable competitors developed by Frontline Academy's Majorstuen headquarters in Oslo. He trained through the Frontline system under Eduardo "Teta" Rios, was promoted to brown belt in 2018, and received his black belt from Rios around December 2021 in the same cohort that included Tarik Hopstock.
Rio cut his competitive teeth on the Scandinavian circuit from 2015 onwards — the Nordic BJJ Open, Swedish Open, Oslo Summer Open — and progressed steadily up the belt ranks. As a brown belt he reached the podium at the 2019 IBJJF European Championship (silver, light featherweight) and represented Frontline at the IBJJF European Championship and the Rome International Open.
At black belt he has continued as one of Frontline's most active senior students, balancing competition with a full instructor role at Majorstuen, where he teaches BJJ, no-gi, strength training and mobility. He is part of the generation of Norwegian grapplers — alongside Tarik Hopstock, Anja Bergo and Kjetil Lydvo — that has helped establish Scandinavia as a serious force in international BJJ.
