Devi Ahuja made Scandinavian BJJ history in 2010 when she became the first Scandinavian woman to be promoted to black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. The promotion came from Eduardo "Teta" Rios, head coach of Frontline Academy and one of the most influential figures in Northern European grappling.
Of half-Indian, half-Norwegian heritage, Ahuja began training at Frontline Academy at a time when women in Norwegian BJJ were vanishingly rare. She persevered through years as one of very few female practitioners in the country, and turned that pioneering position into international competition results.
Her best-known competitive achievement is winning the ADCC European Trials in 2011 at +60 kg, beating Finland's Venla Luukkonen in the final and qualifying for the ADCC World Championship that same year, where she faced Gabi Garcia. She is also widely reported as an early IBJJF World medallist at coloured belt.
Today Ahuja is a senior instructor at Frontline Academy's Majorstuen branch in Oslo, where she teaches BJJ and leads "yoga ninja" classes for children. She has been instrumental in building the women's BJJ community in Oslo and remains a role model for Norwegian female grapplers.
