Ze Mário Queiroga

Ze Mário Queiroga is a sixth-degree black belt who won Master 2 black-belt ultra-heavy and open class at the 2016 Austin Open No-Gi.

Biography

Ze Mário Queiroga’s documented career combines black-belt competition with a teaching path that has led from Rio de Janeiro to Canada and Austin. Mario Esfiha Brazilian Jiu Jitsu’s current Austin biography describes him as a sixth-degree black belt and places the start of his training around 1989 at Corpo Quatro in Rio. In that account, Roberto Traven remains his professor and promoted him to black belt in late 1998. That same academy biography says Queiroga was teaching jiu-jitsu for a living from 1995, later taught in Canada, and now teaches full time at Mario Esfiha BJJ in Austin. The official 1999 Pan Jiu-Jitsu Championship results place him third in the adult black-belt ultra-heavy division. At the 2016 Austin International Open No-Gi, official results record first-place finishes in Master 2 black-belt ultra-heavy and the open class. Passador BJJ’s instructor page identifies Queiroga as a co-founder of Brasa Team. The same entry describes its head instructor, Frank Ungaro, as having been promoted to third-degree black belt under Queiroga.
