Yusuke Honma

Japanese black belt Yusuke Honma reached the IBJJF Worlds finals in 2007 and 2008 and awarded Kenta Iwamoto his black belt in 2023.

Biography

Yusuke Honma is a Japanese Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt under Yuki Nakai who reached the adult male black-belt roosterweight final at the IBJJF World Championship in 2007 and 2008. Most of the biographical detail comes from BJJ Heroes: it says Honma was already interested in mixed martial arts when he discovered BJJ in his sophomore year of high school, and describes his 2007 silver as the first time a Japanese practitioner reached an IBJJF World Championship final in the adult male black-belt division. Competing for Paraestra in 2007, Honma finished second behind Bruno Malfacine. He returned to the roosterweight final in 2008 and finished second to Caio Terra. In 2011, he took bronze in the same division for Paraestra. Honma made his professional MMA debut in Shooto in 2010, defeating Isao Yoshida with a first-round guillotine choke. His lineage also extends to Kenta Iwamoto, a black belt under Honma. Honma awarded Iwamoto the rank on May 31, 2023, after Iwamoto had become a multiple-time winner of the ADCC Asia and Oceania Trials.
