Henrique Machado

Henrique Machado is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt under Osvaldo Alves who taught at ASLE in Manaus.

Biography

Henrique Machado is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt under Osvaldo Alves whose teaching in Manaus included the ASLE Academy, where Ronaldo “Jacaré” Souza trained. BJJ Heroes describes Machado’s early route through Manaus, Rio de Janeiro and Fortaleza before a return to Rio, where he spent years training and living at Georges Mehdi’s gym in Ipanema. The same account says that, after earning a judo black belt, he returned to Manaus, opened an academy and developed a martial-arts project for young people. It places his pursuit of a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt under Alves after that return. A Crítica reported in 2012 that the traditional ASLE Academy was led by Machado. Sherdog later reported that Souza began training with him there and, after his brother moved away, was invited to stay and help at the academy. In a 2008 interview, Souza called Machado his master and described the academy’s morning, evening and night schedule of Brazilian jiu-jitsu, conditioning and stand-up work; he said their relationship was strong at that time. In 2020, Gregory Rodrigues said he had begun jiu-jitsu with Machado in Manaus and identified him as Souza’s jiu-jitsu coach. A Crítica in 2024 described Souza as Machado’s most successful student. In August 2026, the Amazonas Judo Federation introduced Machado as its new president of the State Grades Commission and identified him as a sixth-dan kodansha. The sixth dan is a judo designation, distinct from the Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt documented in the rest of his profile.
