Erivaldo Junior

Erivaldo Junior taught Claudio Calasans across gym and home mats; a 2016 notice advertised him teaching a Melbourne seminar.

Biography

Erivaldo Junior’s place in the history of Liga Jiu-Jitsu is best seen through the students and training spaces connected to his teaching. In 2010, Claudio Calasans credited Liga Jiu-Jitsu and identified Junior as the teacher with whom he trained from white belt to black belt. A decade later, Calasans described the weekly arrangement in more detail: Junior taught at Calasans’ gym on Tuesdays and Thursdays, while Calasans trained at Junior’s home-mat space on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The wider Liga setting appears in a historical account of Vitor Toledo, which describes Toledo’s long period of training with Junior at Liga Jiu-Jitsu alongside Calasans and David Lemes. Liga JJ presents itself as a school of learning and promotion and keeps an official register of 136 black belts formed by the school. Among the names listed are Cláudio Calassans Jr., Vítor Toledo, and David Juliano Leme. Junior’s teaching also reached Melbourne: a dated 2016 notice advertised him teaching a special gi Brazilian jiu-jitsu seminar at Absolute MMA’s CBD location.
