Dima Murovanni

German black belt Dima Murovanni turned injury setbacks into a coaching career at BJJ Akademie Berlin and B-Team’s 2024 competition camp.

Biography

Dima Murovanni is a German jiu-jitsu coach whose work grew from a disrupted competitive career. He began training at BJJ Akademie Berlin in 2017 with ambitions to compete. In a 2024 FloGrappling interview, Murovanni explained how injuries redirected that plan: an ACL and meniscus tear in July 2019 required two knee surgeries and a two-year layoff, followed by two hernia surgeries and a torn hand ligament in 2022 and 2023. As competing became harder to sustain, coaching became his focus. That transition took shape through individual athletes. Murovanni met Jozef Chen during a three-month stay at B-Team in March 2022, and their work became a formal coaching relationship in summer 2023. Roughly two months later, Chen won the 77-kilogram division at the ADCC European Trials. Margot Ciccarelli began working with Murovanni later that year. She spent four weeks at his Berlin camp, with preparation centered heavily on stand-up work, before winning the women’s under-55-kilogram qualifier at the February 2024 ADCC European Trials. Murovanni’s documented 2023–2024 practice combined management of training intensity with close film study and constraints designed for each athlete. For athletes outside Berlin, much of the exchange happened through videos, voice notes and match footage. Those Trials results led B-Team to bring him in to run its camp for both the Craig Jones Invitational and ADCC 2024. Jits Magazine later linked his “Rumble passing” concept to Jacob Rodriguez’s silver medal at ADCC 2024. BJJ Akademie Berlin currently lists Murovanni as one of its instructors and identifies him as a black belt.
