André 'Fievel' Carvalho grew up in Rio de Janeiro and came through the Carlson Gracie / Ricardo Liborio line that runs straight into Frontline Academy. Promoted to black belt under Liborio and Eduardo 'Teta' Rios, he is widely considered one of the most technical European competitors in his category, with two IBJJF European titles at black belt and silver and bronze medals at the World Championship.
Since 2013 he has been the main professor and co-founder of Frontline Academy Bergen, the western anchor of the Frontline network. The Bergen room he built was the first serious BJJ home for Kjetil Lydvo, the Norwegian black belt who would go on to become one of the country's most successful gi competitors.
Fievel's legacy in Norway is the kind that only fully shows up on competition results pages a decade after the fact — quiet, technical and durable.
