Adam Benayoun

From major brown-belt titles to coaching at Fifty/50 and Black Cat, Adam Benayoun's career connects competition with teaching.

Biography

Adam Benayoun is a second-degree black belt under Ryan Hall whose career connects major competition results with a growing record as a coach. Born in New York City in 1990, he began jiu-jitsu in 2008 at Fábio Clemente's Alliance NYC. At Alliance, Benayoun trained under Clemente, Lucas Lepri, and Babs Olusanmokun through purple belt. He later joined Marcelo Garcia's academy and received his brown belt from Garcia. In 2016, he won both the IBJJF European and Pan championships as an adult brown belt representing Alliance. His next phase brought him into Ryan Hall's Fifty/50 team. BJJ Heroes reports that Benayoun developed a training relationship with Hall and joined the Fifty/50 staff as a coach. Hall promoted him to black belt in Virginia on December 20, 2017. Fifty/50 remains Benayoun's team, while Black Cat Jiu Jitsu is his academy. Black Cat's current site identifies him as the owner and head instructor in Springfield, Virginia. The academy says he broadened the reach of his teaching through instructional releases and an online platform. Its instructor roster also identifies Ryan Clarke as Benayoun's first black belt. It dates Emma Reiter's promotion as his first brown belt to December 2024. Benayoun continued to compete after reaching black belt. BJJ Metrics records him taking second place in the adult black-belt featherweight division at the 2022 Pan No-Gi. The IBJJF's current athlete page records him taking third place in master-one light at the 2023 World No-Gi. BJJ Metrics carries the record forward to 2026, listing him as the master-two light black-belt champion at the Miami Winter No-Gi while representing Fifty 50 Jiu Jitsu.
