Abraham Marte is a Dominican black belt whose record includes two World Championship bronzes and a World Masters double title.

Biography

Abraham J. Marte Messina is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt under Abraham Tabar. BJJ Heroes—the main source for his biography and later achievement record—gives his birth date as 27 June 1980 in Santo Domingo and says training partners call him “Loco.” The profile says he began training with Tabar in late 2001, stopped after a back injury in 2002, and returned in 2006. BJJ Heroes publishes a lineage from Fernando Yamasaki through Tabar to Marte. BJJ Heroes says that after returning to training, Marte traveled frequently to Brazil, developed a relationship with João Gabriel Rocha, and trained extensively at the Soul Fighters academy. At the 2009 Pan Jiu-Jitsu No-Gi Championship, Marte won both the adult purple-belt ultra-heavyweight division and the open class. He competed as an adult brown belt at two distinct IBJJF events in 2011: at the Rio International Open, he won ultra-heavyweight and placed second in the open class; at the World Jiu-Jitsu Championship, he earned silver in the ultra-heavyweight division. For 2012, BJJ Heroes lists Marte as the IBJJF World Championship winner at brown belt. BJJ Heroes characterizes Marte as the first high-level submission grappler from the Dominican Republic and the first Dominican to medal in a black-belt division at the IBJJF World Championship.
