Yukinori Sasa

Yukinori Sasa became the first Japanese Mundial champion by winning at brown belt in 2005, and later made guard-focused instructional material.

Biography

Yukinori Sasa was a Brazilian jiu-jitsu competitor whose 2005 Mundial brown-belt featherweight final victory over Naoya Uematsu made him the first Japanese Mundial champion. That result marked a turning point: the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu News Blog reports that he was promoted to black belt afterward and later placed third in the light-featherweight division at the 2013 Mundial. Sasa also produced instructional material. A Japanese-language book and DVD sold under his name focused on sweeps and submissions from the guard. In a 2010 pre-Mundial interview, he described training every day and adding swimming before sparring as preparation for fatigue.
