Waldomiro Perez

Waldomiro Perez taught through the Behring-to-Cia Paulista transition and is named as Companhia Paulista’s 1988 founder.

Biography

Waldomiro Perez is part of Cia Paulista’s story through a transition rather than a simple origin tale. Cia Paulista traces its roots to a group formed by Marcelo Behring in the early 1980s. When Behring moved to Australia, Perez taught the students who remained. The team first taught under the Behring banner, then at Cia Athletica—the gym that gave the group its next name—before becoming Companhia Paulista. In 1988, Perez is named as the founder of Companhia Paulista de Jiu-Jitsu. Cia Paulista International also lists him as BJJ head coach at Companhia Athletica from 1988 to 1999. Within the same teaching story, Cia Paulista says Perez received his black belt from Behring and later awarded black belts to Roberto Godoi, Jorge Patino, and Eduardo Leitão.
