Wahyu Hidayat

Wahyu Hidayat reached the Asian Games as a teenager and now leads Equipe Titan Indonesia, sharing his enjoyment of the sport.

Biography

Wahyu Hidayat was a sixteen-year-old blue belt when he traveled to Abu Dhabi with Indonesia's team in 2018. Entered in the under-17 category, he described the visit as his first experience of a major tournament. He wanted to perform well there and before the home crowd at the approaching Asian Games. National coach Bruno Amorim described the trip as a chance to assess the team's level and identify what needed improving before those Games. At the Asian Games in Jakarta, he competed under the full name Handoko Wahyu Hidayat in men's 56-kilogram jujitsu. He was eliminated on the opening day of the jujitsu competition, August 24, 2018. His later results included men's under-56-kilogram gold in ne-waza, or ground fighting, for Kota Bekasi at PORPROV XIV West Java in November 2022. His medal was one of three golds as the Bekasi jujitsu team finished second overall with five medals. Team manager Ade Singgih described two years of post-pandemic preparation and qualification work behind those results. In 2024, Hidayat took PON XXI bronze for West Java in men's under-62-kilogram fighting, the ju-jitsu discipline combining punches, kicks, throws and ground fighting. The current Gracie Barra Indonesia instructor roster identifies him as a BJJ brown belt under Bruno Amorim and Alisson Braga and head coach of Equipe Titan Indonesia. Its biography describes his approach through timing and technique, enabling him to work effectively despite his size. It also connects his teaching with sharing the enjoyment he finds in the sport.
