Tyler Casselman

Tyler Casselman combines international grappling experience and instructional demonstration work as Bangkok Fight Lab's head no-gi coach.

Biography

Tyler Casselman is Bangkok Fight Lab's head no-gi coach, teaching submission grappling without the traditional jiu-jitsu jacket. The academy describes nearly two decades of martial-arts and grappling experience across Europe, the United States and Asia. His background includes Wing Chun, BJJ teaching in Shanghai and training with B-Team in the United States. In 2016, representing Shanghai BJJ, he took silver in the male Master 1 advanced no-gi open class at the Taiwan International BJJ/NoGi Championship. A written podcast introduction by Ramsey Dewey described him as a longtime Wing Chun practitioner and a 10th Planet jiu-jitsu purple belt. In a February 2020 introduction, Dewey identified him as a BJJ coach at Refuge Martial Arts in Shanghai who also practiced Wing Chun. Casselman traveled to the United States in 2021 to train with B-Team. His work also included serving as a demonstration partner on Craig Jones's Make Z Guard Great Again, Power Top and Power Ride instructionals, and Nicky Rod's The Rody Lock System. A demonstration partner takes part in showing the instructor's techniques. He continued competing in regional no-gi events. At the November 5, 2022 ADCC Thailand Open, he won the men's masters absolute, the open-weight division, and took silver in masters under 98.9 kilograms for B-Team. At the March 4, 2023 ADCC Phuket Open, he represented Bangkok Fight Lab and placed third in masters under 87.9 kilograms. In June 2024, fellow grappler Tammi Willis named her friend Casselman as a B-Team brown belt planning to make match-breakdown videos. His current Bangkok Fight Lab biography identifies him as a BJJ black belt awarded by Craig Jones. At Bangkok Fight Lab, he leads an all-levels no-gi program that expects participants to have prior BJJ or grappling experience. The school's curriculum covers takedowns, positional control, submissions and scrambles, drawing on BJJ, wrestling and judo. Dedicated beginners' classes are taught by Amanda Cacciola, while a separate Saturday open sparring session provides training outside the formal classes.
