Morgan Perkins

Morgan Perkins brought his Pedro Sauer training to Bangkok, helped establish Fight Lab and developed students who became coaches and collaborators.

Biography

Morgan Perkins heads the BJJ program at Bangkok Fight Lab, where several of his students have gone on to take coaching roles. His own training began in 1995, at fifteen, under Pedro Sauer. According to the academy's career account, he trained exclusively with Sauer for more than a decade before moving to Thailand in 2006. He began teaching in Bangkok that year as a brown belt, with early instruction at the original Bangkok Fight Club and Bangkok BJJ. He later took time away from training to concentrate on family and career. In 2014, he was invited to help establish Bangkok Fight Lab. The school now identifies him as its sole proprietor and head BJJ coach, with an approach emphasizing fundamentals and technical precision. The Pedro Sauer BJJ Association's current official directory lists him as a third-degree black belt at the school. Student Liudmila Mikhanovskaia described the training group in a 2016 interview with Fenom Kimonos. She recalled about ten women attending regularly at white and blue belt, many of whom wanted to compete. Perkins, she said, supported them without pressuring them to enter tournaments. The school also brought together residents and traveling practitioners. In his September 2018 report, visitor J.W. Seo described Perkins teaching in English to an international mix of students. Seo found the environment welcoming both to visitors and to people preparing for MMA, and returned to train there again. A July 2019 account by visitor Sabine described how the classes developed a subject over time. The curriculum stayed with a concept for several weeks, progressively adding details, variations and counters. Perkins taught most of her classes, while Colin Slider took Friday evenings and Sunday mornings. Her account covered a program in both gi, the jiu-jitsu jacket and trousers, and no-gi. Tammi Willis became a longer-term student. In accounts published in 2023 and 2025, she recalled moving from Myanmar to join Perkins and Bangkok Fight Lab. She wanted an established gym with a full daily schedule, a full-time coach and a wider range of training partners. Those partners included women who became friends. She says she received her blue, purple and brown belts from Perkins. The relationship also extended beyond class. Perkins and his then partners allowed Willis to open a branch of Nourish Cafe inside the gym. In her later account, she recalled the arrangement at the new warehouse location and the pandemic restrictions that eventually led her to close her business and return to Britain in 2021. The current coaching team includes Amanda Cacciola, identified by the academy as a brown belt under Perkins who leads children's and beginner no-gi classes. Detchadin Sornsirisuphathin, its head MMA and boxing coach, is also listed as a BJJ brown belt under him.
