Mikolaj Derwich started martial arts at 15 in Poland, with MMA and Judo as the first two layers of his combat-sport life before he pivoted into BJJ. The geography then widened: training rooms in Poland, the UK, Germany and finally Norway have all shaped his game, giving him a noticeably international purple belt for a Norwegian-based competitor.
He now assists Renato Tavares de Moraes at KDT Jiu-Jitsu Sandvika — the Carlson Gracie-rooted academy that Tavares opened in 2024 — putting Derwich in one of the most lineage-pure rooms in Norway, with a Polish accent attached.
Not to be confused with Mikolaj Mazur at BJJC Oslo, Derwich is the KDT-side Mikolaj on the Norwegian map: a coloured-belt instructor whose own training history makes him a natural bridge between Polish and Scandinavian BJJ inside a gym already known for its Brazilian technical depth.
