Max Metino

Max Metino urged beginners to learn striking and grappling before combining them for MMA.

Biography

Warrior MMA’s undated profile describes Max Metino as its founder and head coach, with a background in boxing, silat, kickboxing and kung fu. Speaking to Liputan6 in September 2013, Metino dated his BJJ and mixed martial arts (MMA) studies to 2001, joining Team Synergy under Niko Han three years later. After judging, coaching and refereeing, he was preparing to try fighting himself. He voiced confidence and a determination to give his best. In an April 2018 INDOSPORT interview, he advised beginners to learn striking—punching and kicking—and grappling, or holds and ground fighting, separately before combining them for MMA. He recommended years of preparation before professional competition. For Randy Pangalila, who already had extensive training, his contribution was more limited: BJJ and wrestling refinement. He saw enthusiasm for competition and recalled suggesting a celebrity match during training.
