Martin Moen, born in 1986, holds a black belt at Frontline Academy Oslo and was a participant in the Norwegian Open Championship 2010 in the BJJ open class — a marker of how long he has been visible on the country's tournament scene. The longer-lasting contribution, though, has come from off the mat.
Together with Joseph Karim, he co-founded the Oslo Submission Series (OSS), one of the first Norwegian professional-style grappling events. Until OSS existed, Norwegian practitioners who wanted a professional-format match — booked, promoted, run as a show — had to travel out of the country to find one. OSS brought that format home.
Inside the broader Frontline ecosystem, Moen represents the entrepreneurial layer: black belts using their position on the mats to build the platforms that the next generation of Norwegian competitors actually need.
