Leiarnna Ferguson

Her first overseas BJJ competition trip brought silver, training opportunities and nerves that faded on the mat.

Biography

Leiarnna Ferguson tried BJJ after gymnastics lost its appeal and her brother began. She found support, challenge and friends. Following a coach’s assessment, she moved from Infinite MMA to G-Force Fawkner. Five or six weekly family journeys supported three-hour sessions; her father reduced work hours. Fundraising sought Pan Kids travel, training and accommodation. In 2024, the Creswick Primary house captain anticipated high-school sport competing for her time. Community donations supported her first overseas competition trip. August 2024 reports described Pan Kids silver and national age-group under-30 kg gold. Nearly three weeks in the US brought training opportunities. She told The Local her nerves faded on stepping onto the mat. Proud of those results, she was aiming for October’s Pan Pacific Kids. The April 2025 Waubra newsletter named Ferguson among four recipients of 2024 scholarships. Each award provided $1,000 towards costs, development and tutoring.
