Laura Rättyä

Black belt promoted by Venla Luukkonen, twice on the podium at the 2022 European IBJJF No-Gi Championship, and an instructor at BJJ Globetrotters camps.

Biography

Laura Rättyä is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt who appears in the rank register of the Finnish Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (SBJJL), on two podiums at an IBJJF European championship and on the teaching rosters of international training camps. The federation's register of highest ranks dates her black belt to 13 November 2021 and names Venla Luukkonen as the instructor who promoted her, with Crest PFC given as her club. The same entry records a first degree, the first stripe on a black belt, on 2 February 2025, this time with Pedro Duarte named. The two instructors are linked: according to Wikipedia, Luukkonen received her own black belt from Duarte on 22 February 2014, and she teaches within the Hilti BJJ network. At the European IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu No-Gi Championship 2022, contested without the traditional jacket, she was entered for Hilti BJJ International and placed third in the adult female black belt light division, up to 61.5 kilograms. She also placed third in the open class, where competitors of any weight meet, sharing that step of the podium with another athlete. The BJJ Globetrotters camp page credits her with a no-gi gold at the Finnish Nationals in the same year. The SBJJL info page lists her as a member of the federation's competition committee, the Kilpailuvaliokunta, chaired by Janne Maunonen. BJJ Globetrotters has published videos from her camp classes. A video from its Winter Camp 2024, posted that August, covers reverse de la Riva, a guard in which the bottom player hooks a leg inside the opponent's leg, together with lasso guard, in which a leg wraps around the opponent's arm; the site files it under sweeps from guard. A video from Spring Camp 2026, posted on 2 June 2026, teaches the leg drag, a guard pass in which the top player moves the opponent's legs to one side, under the title "Leg drag – The classic pass with a modern twist". Other camp pages list her as well. Artemis BJJ's page for its May 2024 camp in Bergen names her among the instructors, describes her as "a frequent teacher" at Globetrotters camps and gives her the 11:30 to 12:30 slot on the schedule. The Globetrotters page for its Midsummer Camp in Lahti, Finland, in June 2027 lists her among its confirmed black belt instructors and introduces her as being from Helsinki.
