Hakim Gouram

Hakim Gouram combined self-funded Brazilian training and competition across the belts with teaching in the Souyouf and G.E Team network.

Biography

Hakim Gouram is a jiu-jitsu instructor and competitor whose career links Brussels, training in Brazil and a lasting personal connection to Morocco. Born in Brussels on April 30, 1977, he recalled moving to Morocco at seven and spending five years there, including primary school. In an interview attributed to Morocco's MAP agency, he described that experience as an enduring connection with Moroccan culture. Gouram said he began jiu-jitsu in 2002 and was immediately drawn to it. A four-month trip to Brazil in 2004, preparing for blue-belt competition, strengthened that commitment. In the republished MAP profile, he described funding Brazilian travel and stays himself because he lacked sponsors. He regarded time in the academies as important preparation beyond the work he could do alone. The 2004 Copa do Mundo provides a detailed early example of his competition. A contemporary Luta Brazil report records him winning the adult blue-belt super-heavyweight final in Salvador against Bruno Santos, representing Behring. Gouram repeatedly pulled guard, taking the fight to a position from which he could attack underneath, and sought submissions while Santos pursued advantages through passing. After they finished level on advantages, the referee awarded Gouram the decision. His published results in an August 2013 BJJ Eastern Europe interview describe further Copa do Mundo success at different belts: a purple-belt absolute title in 2006 and a brown-belt title above 97 kilograms in 2007. The same list includes black-belt World Cup silver above 97 kilograms in 2012. Gouram reported receiving his black belt in 2008 and described himself as second degree by the time of that interview. At the IBJJF Europeans, he took silver in adult male black-belt super-heavyweight in 2008 and bronze in that division in 2009. At the 2010 Europeans, he took bronze in adult male black-belt ultra-heavyweight. The 2012 Rio Open results also place him second in adult male black-belt ultra-heavyweight, representing Asean BJJF. Teaching was already part of his activity before black belt. Ronin MMA recorded his August 27, 2005 visit to Blankenberge and praised the care and detail of his explanations. In 2013, Gouram described his Belgian academy as bringing different ages and cultures together, with teaching young people to respect differences among its purposes. He also worked with the Najah association, which organized the Belgian BJJ Open. He described competitors coming from elsewhere in Europe and Brazil. His connection to Morocco informed another ambition. Gouram expressed a wish to help develop martial-arts structures and train local competitors there. In August 2013, he described a proposed coaching role with a new Moroccan MMA federation, intended to connect fighters based in Morocco and Europe. At the time, he expected the arrangements to become official that September. He also hoped to return to MMA competition late in 2013, saying he enjoyed combining different martial-arts skills. The teaching network around him is visible in the schools' own accounts. Team Souyouf identifies Gouram as a BJJ and MMA instructor, a training partner for its competitors and someone they look up to. Its coaching page places him alongside Younes Elhannoufi and describes the close connection between Souyouf and G.E Team. The G.E Team BJJ Bruxelles club profile lists Gouram with Elhannoufi and Hafid Guertit at the academy in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean. A named student's path adds detail to that relationship. Souyouf credits Adil Harrar's development to Gouram, Elhannoufi and Harrar's older brother Karim. Its account follows Harrar from an early competitor into a principal coaching role of his own.
