Detchadin Sornsirisuphathin

Detchadin Sornsirisuphathin fought to fund his education, reached ONE and became a Bangkok Fight Lab coach who also brought training to children.

Biography

Detchadin “Detchpool” Sornsirisuphathin is Bangkok Fight Lab's head MMA and boxing coach and a former ONE Championship athlete. His route into professional fighting began with helping to pay for his education. He grew up on a farm in Chiang Mai in northern Thailand, the youngest of six children in a Karen family whose parents grew rice in the mountains. ONE's detailed 2020 profile describes him beginning traditional Karen sword fighting at sixteen. An older villager encouraged him to take up Muay Thai the following year. Fighting offered a way to support his studies and reduce the financial burden on his family. At twenty-three, after completing non-formal education in Chiang Mai, he moved to Bangkok to pursue undergraduate study at Ramkhamhaeng University while developing his MMA career. His training included boxing, BJJ and Muay Thai, alongside amateur MMA competition. A local six-man amateur tournament victory preceded his professional debut in 2013, the year he also competed in Warriors Cage events. Shannon Wiratchai became an important teacher. The 2020 account credits him with helping develop Sornsirisuphathin's skills and connecting him with opportunities to compete on a larger stage. Regional performances led to the first season of ONE Warrior Series, where Sornsirisuphathin made four appearances before moving to ONE's main roster. His nickname came from Marvel's Deadpool. Explaining the choice, he said he liked the character's outward irreverence and affection for family. Before his main-roster debut in August 2020, he had spent time back in his village during the pandemic. He returned to Bangkok for preparation that combined running with striking, wrestling, ground-and-pound, sparring and weight training. Ground-and-pound brings striking into the grounded positions contested in MMA. The debut took place against Drex Zamboanga at ONE: A New Breed in Bangkok on August 28, 2020. Zamboanga submitted him late in the second round. Before that debut, Sornsirisuphathin had also spoken about wanting to earn enough from fighting to help children in his village obtain educational essentials. A later account gives a concrete example of his teaching elsewhere. In a November 2021 interview with BJJ Globetrotters, Bangkok Fight Lab teammate Vara Poorisrisak recalled inviting him to a children's project in Sangkhlaburi, near the Myanmar border. Sornsirisuphathin taught Muay Thai over three sessions in three days, ending with a small kicking competition he organized for the children. Poorisrisak also reported that he donated pads, shin guards and gloves so they could continue practicing after the visit. At Bangkok Fight Lab, he is now identified as a BJJ brown belt under Morgan Perkins as well as head MMA and boxing coach. The academy's MMA program draws on its wider coaching team to combine Muay Thai, boxing, BJJ, no-gi grappling, wrestling, clinch work and cage work. It serves local residents, amateurs and professionals, with instruction adapted to experience. Even its all-levels class expects students to have prior striking or grappling training. The academy also credits Sornsirisuphathin with coaching Thailand's national team at the 2025 GAMMA World Championships, where it reports one gold and two bronze medals for the team.
