Charlie Tromans

Charlie Tromans valued charity competition and the accomplishment of taking part, whatever the result.

Biography

Brazilian Power Team Jersey (BPT) lists Charlie Tromans among its coaches. In 2018, Tromans recalled seeking direction when he joined BPT in 2015. Twice-weekly training increased; Eddie and Miro encouraged his 2016 bronze debut. After seven engineering years, full-time work restricted training. His girlfriend asked what he enjoyed, prompting resignation with family and coaches’ support despite financial uncertainty. London pressure reminded him of enjoyment; Jersey Sport Foundation helped nerves and strength. He planned up to three daily sessions, fortnightly overseas contests from September, a £12,000 season with sponsors, crowdfunding and possible part-time work. In January 2017, Youngzilion named Tromans and Eduardo Afonso as instructors alongside head coach Vladimiro Afonso for its Jersey project. Its stated remit joined training and competition with school life, family relationships, teamwork and anti-bullying concerns. At Manchester’s All Stars on 7 April 2018, Express reported seven fights: no-gi weight-class gold and open silver, plus gi weight-class bronze. The formats differ by whether competitors wear the grappling jacket. Express’s 2021 London All-stars report lists his purple-belt weight-class silver and open-weight absolute bronze. ITV reported a REORG gold for instructor Tromans in Wolverhampton in August 2022. For him, supporting charity through competition mattered alongside the sense of accomplishment, whatever the result.
