Carlos Quintero

Carlos Quintero’s teaching at Affinity combines continued learning with helping children handle defeat.

Biography

Affinity’s brochure presents Carlos Quintero as its Colombia head coach: a black belt with over sixteen years of practice who speaks Spanish and English. The academy’s programme spans gi training in the jacket, no-gi, fundamentals and open mat, alongside children’s classes and women’s self-defence. Quintero still saw himself as a learner when he spoke to Bienestar in September 2025. He continued to tap, accepting a submission, and treated that experience as a lesson in humility. He prized Affinity’s friendships and argued that jiu-jitsu should fit the practitioner’s body, whatever their size or flexibility. With children, he emphasized learning to cope with losing instead of panicking when victory did not come. His account of grappling centred on controlling another person without striking them. His teaching also appears through a pupil’s acknowledgement. In May 2026, El Universal named Quintero as Carlos Sarmiento’s professor at Affinity Studios in Bogotá, among the people Sarmiento credited for supporting his competition preparation.
