Biography

Cambridge BJJ describes Aubrey Formica as a Brazilian jiu-jitsu instructor who grew up in Cambridge, Ontario. Listed as a certified Jiu-Jitsu For Life Team instructor, she teaches children and women. The school emphasizes her work welcoming beginners, particularly women taking their first steps in the sport. Her 2025 World Master preparation took place around her work as a trainer at the gym. She practiced daily, sometimes twice, with Kelvin Bezerra and Nadisson Rossi overseeing preparation that included conditioning, rest and nutrition. She had injured her knee before committing to the tournament and still had surgery ahead. Her initial goal was to win one match. She told CambridgeToday that winning her first bout increased her confidence as the competition continued. At the 2025 World Master, she won the women’s Master 1 blue feather division. The following year brought a different challenge. After surgery to reconstruct a knee ligament, Formica spent months rebuilding, while a mental barrier persisted almost until Worlds. She told CambridgeToday that returning as a champion also brought greater expectations. A semifinal review required her to refocus before winning again. Afterwards, she described feeling particularly proud of what she had accomplished after such a difficult year. IBJJF lists her 2026 World Master gold in the women’s Master 1 purple feather division. Her movement class gives her teaching work a specific focus. The school’s published description brings together body awareness, balance, coordination, mobility and control for BJJ. Its priorities vary with experience: foundational work for beginners, and refining transitions and movement habits for experienced students.
