Antoni Carrera

Antoni Carrera moved from children’s football coaching to teaching adult BJJ competitors.

Biography

Antoni Carrera discovered Brazilian jiu-jitsu after a move away from the Paris region. Seeking a quieter life, he and his wife, Maria, settled in Villefranche-de-Lauragais in July 2013. The following year, he began BJJ at Aranha under Eric Satgé. His coaching biography traces a broader sporting education: football and handball from six, then other sports that drew him toward teaching. He learned to teach children through the football federation and coached Avignonet’s under-8 and under-9 teams for three years. He later taught adult BJJ competitors, emphasizing shared progress. The page lists him leading CFC’s Cornebarrieu BJJ section, teaching TFT grappling twice weekly since 2024, and holding a black belt since 2023. His competition results include the 2023 IBJJF Master International Europe title in the men’s Master 2 brown-belt light division, at 76 kg, for Association Aranha France. Carrera and Maria cofounded Tonic Mouvement. In June 2023, he announced an introductory mixed martial arts seminar with professional fighter Quentin Arola, inviting beginners alongside experienced participants. La Dépêche followed his national competition results in 2024. Its April report records silver at black-belt Master 3–4 under 79 kg in No-Gi, the format contested without the traditional jiu-jitsu uniform. June brought national BJJ gold at black-belt Master 3–4 under 76 kg. Carrera described initial apprehension, then imposing a varied game with quick positional changes. In the final, he applied pressure immediately, attached to a leg and finished with an ankle lock.
