Almohanad Almarwai

Almohanad Almarwai competed in jiu-jitsu, encouraged his brother Osamah and developed coffee businesses with an emphasis on education.

Biography

Almohanad Almarwai helped bring his younger brother Osamah into jiu-jitsu. In a May 2023 interview with Annahar, Osamah credited Almohanad with encouraging him to begin; ONE Championship's account likewise describes him following his older brother into the sport. Almohanad also competed himself. Representing Arena Saudi Arabia, he won silver in the Master 1 blue-belt lightweight division at the 2016 IBJJF London Winter International Open. Annahar described him as a brown belt in 2023. Away from the mats, Almarwai built a career in coffee. In his 2021 interview with Arrajol, he recalled working a salaried job while trying businesses, several of which failed. An organic-produce venture and an American friend's invitation took him to Uganda. There, fruit he initially mistook for cherries turned out to be coffee, opening a direction he pursued through AgriNexus. He began learning the trade by carrying sacks, completed six months of training in Uganda and continued studying coffee in Britain. In 2018 he established Coffee Lights with three partners, combining consulting and training with roasting, imports and cafes. At Ash Cafe, free coffee sessions and space for artists made education and creative work part of the business, although the pandemic interrupted those activities. His advice to other entrepreneurs was practical: learn the trade, understand the market, develop a distinct identity and seek experienced help. Startup Grind Jeddah's May 2022 introduction brought both parts of his life together, presenting the competing jiu-jitsu practitioner as co-founder and CEO of Coffee Lights and Uganda's AgriNexus. Prince Mohammed Bin Salman College's alumni directory also identifies him as a co-founder of those companies. His educational work developed further through the Arabian Coffee Institute. An October 2022 Arab News profile reported that he had been its co-founder and CEO since January that year. The institute offered internationally accredited courses across the coffee supply chain. The profile also described his work in quality assurance, consultancy and training, supporting people developing coffee businesses.
