Alison Victoria Tremblay

Alison Tremblay turned family training and campaign-funded travel into world-level medals and now coaches adults and children at Alpha MMA.

Biography

Alison Victoria Tremblay’s jiu-jitsu career developed inside a family training room. She was born in Montreal on November 30, 1990, and moved with her family to Carleton Place at ten. Around the same time, her father, Peter, began teaching her jiu-jitsu at the family’s Alpha MMA gym. He was a blue belt then, and the lessons began years before elite competition became her focus. Hockey occupied much of Tremblay’s early sporting attention. That balance changed after her first grappling tournament in 2007, when she was 16. She moved to training six days a week, turning a skill learned from her father into a sustained competitive pursuit. The first years at the Worlds did not bring an immediate title. In a first-person account published through MAKEACHAMP, Tremblay recalled finishing runner-up in 2010 and again in 2011. She then worked with coaches and teammates on a new plan that combined mental and physical preparation. Tremblay connected that revised preparation to her results in 2012. She won the purple-belt World Championship and took both her weight class and the open class at the No-Gi Pan. The shift from consecutive second-place finishes to those titles was shared work in her telling. She credited her father and brother for being in her corner, Fabio Holanda and Ben Meireles for their advice, and the small Carleton Place training group for creating a place where knowledge was readily shared. Reaching the tournaments carried a separate challenge. Tremblay described travel costs and limited sponsorship as obstacles while she was a full-time athlete and recent psychology graduate. She used MAKEACHAMP to finance a trip to California for the 2014 brown-belt Worlds. The platform’s report records that she made the trip and won her division. Peter Tremblay awarded his daughter her black belt on November 22, 2014. Her first major season at that rank continued the progression. Tremblay took silver in the adult black-belt division at the 2015 Worlds; BJJ Heroes identifies her as the second Canadian national to medal at that level. The same reference work lists her as winning both her weight class and the open class at the 2015 No-Gi Pan. BJJ Heroes also identifies pressure guard passing as Tremblay’s preferred technical approach. In practical terms, the passer uses sustained pressure while working beyond an opponent’s legs and guard. The family structure that shaped her first lessons remains visible in her work today. Alpha MMA currently lists Tremblay as a coach who teaches jiu-jitsu fundamentals to adults and children. The academy describes a programme for recreational students as well as competitors, overseen by Peter, with Michael Tremblay also on the coaching team. Tremblay’s career joins several kinds of support without reducing the titles to a single cause. Her father introduced the art and later promoted her. Family members, outside coaches and a small-town team helped build her preparation. Campaign support made one decisive trip possible. The medals that followed belong to her competitive record, while her current role at Alpha extends the same family setting to another generation of students.
